Robert (Bob) Dickson Martin was born in Shepparton, Victoria,
Australia. Educated in a small rural school in Central Victoria
and beyond. Much later he graduated from The University of
Melbourne and later studied at Monash, La Trobe and Deakin
Universities.
He has really lived a dual life: a 'chook' person from about
six years old and continuing on to attend poultry shows until
his mid-teens when he concentrated on learning chick sexing.
At eighteen he started his working life as a commercial chick
sexer and continued on in this occupation for twenty years.
|
| During this time he had a 25,000 bird poultry breeding farm
and small hatchery. He was a company secretary for a while and
was on the Central Executive of the Victorian Farmer's Union.
He later became a secondary college teacher in Melbourne, after
teaching he drifted into writing and has written some short
stories, anecdotes, essays and a history-text book on commercial
chick sexing. |

 |
Poultry again came to the fore with the publication of his
book on the world history of commercial chick sexing, 'The Specialist
Chick Sexer'. He has had many radio interviews on the subject
both in Australia and America. He has been on National television
in Australia six times, five of the appearances were about chick
sexing and one about Australians married to Asians. |
| On one national television show 'Burke's Backyard' he spoke
about the part meditation can play in producing accurate chick
sexers. |
| At heart he is a 'teacher', first as a teacher
of chick sexing, then as a secondary college teacher of History
and English, and again in the 1990's he taught chick sexing.
