A section of the Martin farm at Tyabb, Victoria. Each 50ft by 25 ft pen housed 450 birds. There were fifty of these pens on the farm, all birds were kept for producing fertile eggs for the production of day old chickens. All birds were fed pellets from hoppers with cut green feed at mid-day and wheat scattered on the floor of the pen late in the working day.
